Question:

Using the following prices, calculate the unit price to determine how much it would cost for 7 granola bars and 9 bottles of water.

$7.14 for 6 granola bars

$8.72 for 8 bottles of water

a. $18.14

b. $18.63

c. $21.41

d. $31.72

Solution:

Find the cost of 1 granola bar:

6 granola bars = $7.14

1  granola bar = 7.14 ÷ 6 = $1.19

Find the cost of 7 granola bars:

1  granola bar = $1.19

7 granola bars = 1.19 x 7 = $8.33

Find the cost of 1 bottle of water:

8 bottles of water = $8.72

1 bottle of water = 8.72 ÷ 8 = $1.09

Find the cost of 9 bottle of water:

1 bottle of water = $1.09

9 bottles of water = 1.09 x 9 = $9.81

Find the cost of 7 granola bars and 9 bottle of water:

7 granola bars  = $8.33

9 bottles of water = $9.81

Total cost = 8.33 + 9.81 = $18.14
