Pratap Singh I, also known as Maharana Pratap, was the thirteenth king of Mewar, a region in northwest India that is now a part of the province of Rajasthan.

Explanation:

• In a striking contrast to his predecessor Hindu kings, who had submitted to the Mughals, Rana Pratap, the child and successor of the feeble Rana Udai Singh, sought vengeance for the 1567 pillage of his capital, Chittoor, and the ensuing invasions by Akbar.
• Rana Pratap improved the posts and the administration while advising his citizens to flee to the mountainous region during the Mughal invasion.
• In June 1576, in Haldighati, he rejected a union and irritated one of Akbar's messengers, leading to his defeat by Mughal forces. Then he ran away to the hills.
• He continued to irritate the Mughals and beg for their silence and covert protection from Akbar's tax collectors despite having lost a substantial chunk of his defenses.
