•Particles in a solid form an ordered structure. when a solid is heated, the particles gain energy and break free amof the structure. They are able to move around, and the solid melts. At the time of melting, energy is used to change the arrangement of the particles inside the body rather than increasing the random movement.

•When you boil a liquid, heat makes the liquid particles move around more. As the particles move faster, they bump into each other and push each other apart. The particles keep on moving until they gain enough energy to overcome the attractive forces of their neighbors and break away into the surrounding space.
