What is element?

  • An element is a substance that consists of only one type of atoms.
  • It cannot be broken further into any other substance.
  • It is a pure chemical substance.
  • Examples of element are hydrogen, nitrogen, sodium etc.

What is compound?

  • It is a chemical substance that is made of two or more than two different types of atoms.
  • Different types of atoms gets attached via chemical bonds by transfer of electrons of atoms.
  • Example of compounds are water (H_{2} O), Salt (NaCl) etc
