using turmeric as a indicator , say Amla juice, detergent solution,curd,gelucil,bitter guard juice ,soda water ,milk of magnesia is a acid or base?

soap contains sodium hydroxide which is a base and turmeric contains a mild acid so whenever soap solution is added to the turmeric paste it will give reddish brown colour .

indicator are of different type. some are universal indicator, some are acidic indicator and some are basic indicator. universal indicator give differnt colour in both acid and base, as in case of litmus.  acidic indicator change its colour when it pour in acids,and does not change its colour in base, and basic indictor chnge its colour in bases only. so, turmeric is an basic indicator, because, when a stain of turmric is on your cloth is washed by soap (which is basic in nature), than the stain change itto red colour.

Explanation:

turmic doenot affect the colour of amla juice, as amla juice is acidic, and turmeric change red only in basic solution.

in detergent solution turmeric change into red colour.

in case of curd and bitter guard juice turmeric does not change its colour.

soda water also turmeric colour is not change because all the soda water have CO2 in it and non metal oxide when dissolve in water produces acid, so in this case carbonic acid is form which is weak acis.

in case of milk of magnesia turmeric change its colour because milk of magnesia is basic in nature.
