so, distance travelled = average velocity * time

                                     =(initial velocity + final velocity / 2) * time

                               S  =  u+v/2 * t

                     so, from acceleration = change in velocity/ time taken

                        we get a=v - u/t

                                   = v=u + at

                                   so, from this equation

                                      t = v - u/a

                                 s = u + v/2 * v-u/a = v^-u^/2a

                    or, v^ - u^ = 2as
