Sea water is hyper tonic. If we drink a lot of sea water the cell will shrink as it losses water ( water moves from a higher concentration to a lower concentration outside) hence dehydration occurs.

Hope this helps...

Answer:

If you drank saltwater, your body would eliminate the extra salt by excreting more water than you ingested through urination. Your body would actually experience a net loss of water as opposed to being satisfied, leading to dehydration and increased thirst.

Explanation:

But the major reason why we humans don't drink seawater isn't because of how salty it tastes. We must drink freshwater rather than saltwater to maintain our health, and there is a compelling scientific justification for this. Water covers more than 70% of the surface of the Earth. But most of that water is saltwater, which cannot be drunk. Given that our bodies require both water and salt in order to function, it may seem strange that humans are unable to consume saltwater. The presence of too much salt in seawater is an issue. There is very little salt that our bodies require. Our kidneys must excrete extra salt from our bodies through urine when we consume too much salt.
