Temperature in Fahrenheit = 113°F (given)

Temperature given by the faulty thermometer = 44°C

Now, the correct temperature in Celsius
 = \frac{(113 - 32 )\times5 }{9} \\ = \frac{81 \times 5}{9 } \\ = 45 \degree

Therefore, the correction to be applied
= 45°C – 44°C
= 1°C

Hence, the correction to be applied is +1°C.
