(v) In which climatic conditions are citrus fruits cultivated?
The climatic condition required for cultivation of citrus fruits is hot dry summers and winters that are gently rainy. Citrus fruits like oranges, olives, figs and grapes are grown in areas that have Mediterranean vegetation.
(vi) Mention the uses of coniferous forest.
Coniferous forests, having tall evergreen trees find numerous uses in:
- making pulp to produce paper and newsprint
- manufacturing boxes such as match boxes and packing boxes
(vii) In which part of the world is seasonal grassland found?
Seasonal grasslands, also known as temperate grasslands, are found in mid-latitudinal zones in the interior of continents, where summers are hot and winters cold.
Vegetation
Vegetation refers to the types of plants and flora that grow in a region, naturally. It depends on many factors:
- climate
- moisture
- soil profile
- slope
There are three main types of vegetation:
❀ Forests: which grow in areas where rainfall is plentiful. For example: tropical evergreen forests, tropical deciduous forests, coniferous forests.
❀ Grasslands: which require very moderate rain in order to vegetate. For example: seasonal grasslands, tropical grasslands, temperate grasslands.
❀ Shrubs: which grow in dry regions where there is less rainfall. For example: spiny bushes, tundra, scrubs.
