Answer:

p × q = 6 ….. (1)

p + q = - 5 ……(2)

From equation (2), put q = - 5 - p in equation (1)

p × ( - 5 - p) = 6

- 5p - [math]p^2[/math] = 6

[math]p^2[/math] + 5p + 6 = 0

It is a quadratic equation which can be solved by factorisation method.

[math]p^2[/math] + 3p + 2p + 6 = 0

p ( p +3) + 2 ( p + 3) =0

(p + 3) ( p + 2) =0

p = - 3, - 2

If p = - 3, then q = - 5 - (-3) = - 5 +3 = - 2.

If p= - 2, then q = - 5 - (-2) = - 5 + 2 = - 3

Answer:

p × q = -6 ….. (1)

p + q = - 5 ……(2)

From equation (2), put q = - 5 - p in equation (1)

p × ( - 5 - p) = -6

- 5p -p² = -6

p² + 5p -6  = 0

It is a quadratic equation which can be solved by middle splitting method.

p²-p +6p- 6 = 0

p ( p-1) + 6 ( p-1) =0

(p + 6) ( p-1) =0

p = -6 and p=1

IF p=-6                               &                  IF p=1

then ,                                  &                   then

q=1                                      &                   q=-6
