Co-ordinate Covalent Bond

A co-ordinate Covalent Bond is a bond which involves a shared pair of electrons that come from single atom.

Example : Ammonium Ion

Ammonium Ion has nitrogen with an unshared pair of electrons. These can be shared with an electron deficient Ion like H+ or Hydrogen Ion.

The Ammonium Ion is formed when a H+ ion coordinately bond to the NH3 molecule.

NH3 + H+ - NH4+
