When a rope is pulled on either side when the force is compressive when the force acts inwards on the body. It depends on the type of material by which it is made up of whether it is elastic or non-elastic. It also acts through the both of the ends of the body.

When the compressive force is applied it has chances to get increase in its diameter but shorten in its length. It is totally depends on the material.

If the force is tensile is also known as the stretching force in which both the ends of the body stretch outwards whether its length increase or remains same. It depends on the material of the body.

When the tensile force is applied it has chances to get decrease in its diameter but increase in its length. It is totally depends on the material.
