any point on the X axis is of the form (x,0)

let the ratio be k:1

Using section formula for Y coordinate

0 =  \frac{(1 \times  - 3) + (5 \times k)}{k + 1}  \\ 0 =  - 3 + 5k \\ 3 = 5k \\ k =  \frac{3}{5}

since the ratio is k:1

therefore it can be written as

3/5:1

So the required ratio is

3:5

Now using section formula for X coordinate

x =  \frac{(1 \times 5) + (4 \times 3)}{5 + 3}  \\ x =  \frac{5 + 12}{8}  \\ x =  \frac{17}{8}

here is your answer :)
