Given that;

20,22,27,37,54

To find;

The next number in the given series

Solution;

The difference between second and first term(22-20) = 2

The difference of third and second term(27-20) = 5

The difference of fourth and third term(37-27) = 10

The difference of fifth and fourth term(54-37) =17

Clearly,we can see that the difference of the obtained differences i.e

5-2 =3 , 10-5 =5 , 17-10 =7 forms a series of odd terms i.e

3,5,7. So the next term must be 9 in the series of odd terms i.e.

3,5,7,9

Let required number be 'x'.

Now the difference between x and 54 will be = 26

so,  x = 54 + 26 = 80

Hence, the required number is 80.
