Back in 1953, on this day -- August 1 -- Indian Airlines and Air India International started operations which were set up under the Air Corporations Act, 1953 after the government nationalised all the airlines of the country.

In March 1953, the Parliament passed the Air Corporations Act.
It got assent of the President of India on May 28, 1953.
New corporations started their operation from August 1, 1953.
The Air Corporations Act, 1953, nationalised all air transports and provided for the establishment of Air Corporations to facilitate the acquisition of existing airline companies and to make better provisions for the operations of air transport services in the country.
