Vaibhav passed in board examination. He decided to distribute the sweets to his relatives. Vaibhav has three
relatives. He purchased a box of sweets and went to home of each relative one by one to distribute the sweets.
If he distributed one-third sweets of box to his first relative from his box, one third of the remaining sweets
in the box to the second relative, again one third of the remaining sweets in the box to the third relative and
at the end he is left with 18 sweets, then find the number of sweets in the box.

Answer:

Let the number of sweets in box = x

he x/3 to 1st relative, remaining = x - x/3 = 2x/3

1/3 of 2x/3 = 2x/9 given to 2nd relative

remaining = 2x/3 - 2x/9 = 4x/9

1/3 of 4x/9 = 4x/27 is given to 3rd relative

Remaining = 4x/9 - 4x/27 = 8x/27

8x/27 = 18

x = 18×27/8 = 9×27/4
