Hey there !

Solution:

Sodium has an electronic configuration of 2, 8, 1.

So since it has 3 terms in it's electronic configuration, the element sodium has 3 shells namely, K, L, M.

Since it has only one electron at the end, the valency electron of Sodium is 1. Since only one electron needs to be removed for satisfying octet structure, the valency of sodium is +1.

Valence Electrons refer to the number of electrons present in the outermost shell.

Hope my answer helped !
