valency of carbide is C4-and of calcium is Ca2+.But why is the formula of calcium carbide CaC2and not Ca2C ????

ca is +2 and ca is a 2 in a formula that 2(2) = 4 and c is valence is -4 tharefore +4 or -4 = 0
