Actually to understand this concept..

U should just see all these steps.:

First, in reality the formula is C2O4 which gets into a ratio of 1:2 thus CO2

Second . U can just try to see the the electron dot stucture of their bonding..

Thta is ., it(carbon) shares 2 pairs of electron with each oxygen atoms. Thus completing it octet and becomes stable. Since only 4 electrons are needed for C to become stable, it reqiures only. 2 oxygen atoms for that purpose. Similarly oxygen needs 2 electrons which it shares with the C atom(both O atoms does this).

THUS FORMULA FOR CARBON DIOXIDE IS CO2..BUT VALENCY OF C IS 4 AND O IS 2….
