Valency of Nitrogen is 3. Nitrogen atomic number is 7, in an atom of Nitrogen 1st electronic shell has 2 electrons & 2nd shell has remaining 5 electrons hence in chemical reaction nitrogen atom accepts 3 electrons to complete octet in 2nd shell.
