Valency of sulphur is -2 and oxygen is -2 . But why when it becomes sulphur dioxide it is written as SO2. Explain using doing cross multiplication of valencies.
It is confusing me a lot !!​

For example, when sulfur is burned in air (one of my favourite chemical reactions ;-), it is combining with the oxygen in the air to produce an oxide. Let's look at this reaction in the form of a chemical equation: S (sulfur) + O2 (oxygen) -----|> SO2 (sulfur dioxide).
