Answer:

The Bay of Bengal branch of the Indian monsoon loses its moisture by the time it reaches the north-western part of India where Gujarat is located.

And the Arabian sea branch of the monsoon flows parallel to the Aravalli Mountains and reach the northern part of India but does not shed moisture over Gujarat

Here is your answer -

The two states, Rajasthan and some parts of Gujarat face insufficient rainfall because these states lies in the rain shadow region of Aravalli range.

Explanation:

  • Some parts of Gujrat and Rajasthan get scanty rainfall. As these states lies in the rain shadow region of Aravalli range.
  • The Kathiawar Branch of south-west monsoon extends over the southern parts of Rajasthan, but due to the absence of orographic barriers, rainfall is insufficient in that region.
  • The Bay of Bengal’s branch of monsoon arrives northern region of Rajasthan but fails to allow precipitation, as wind become dry when it reaches Rajasthan after a long journey above Indian Plains of Northern region.
