In general, for negative bases only integer powers are defined. So, if you write like (−1)2/3(−1)2/3, I have to say it is not defined.

The reason for not defining this is that there is no precise way of defining it which has the right properties. Just to make the point, consider the following :

(−1)1/3=−1(−1)1/3=−1 as (−1)×(−1)×(−1)=(−1)3=−1(−1)×(−1)×(−1)=(−1)3=−1

On the other hand, law of index will tell m/n=p/qm/n=p/q, then am/n=ap/q.am/n=ap/q. So,

(−1)1/3=(−1)2/6=((−1)2)1/6=11/6=1.
