Answer :

b = 9

Note :

• A linear equation in two variables represents a straight line in a 2D plane .

• The general equation of a straight line is given by ; ax + by + c = 0 , where x is independent variable & y is dependent variable . And a , b , c are arbitrary constants .

Solution :

Here ,

The given linear equation in two variables is ;

4x + 9y = 8 .

The given equation can be rewritten as ;

→ 4x + 9y - 8 = 0

→ 4x + 9y + (-8) = 0 ---------(1)

Now ,

Comparing eq-(1) with the general linear equation in two variables , ax + by + c = 0

We get ;

a = 4

b = 9

c = -8

Hence , b = 9 .
