Applying these data to our theory allowed for the calculation of the band gap energies of silicon and germanium. The obtained values are Eg(Si) = (1.01 ± 0.19) eV (95% CI) and Eg(Ge) = (0.68 ± 0.15) eV (95% CI), which are both in agreement with the accepted values of Eg(Si)=1.17 eV and Eg(Ge)=0.74 eV [1].
