adding both equation

x+y=13

x-y=5

we get 2x =18

x =18/2

x=9

x+y=13

9+y=13

y=13-9

y=4

x + y = 13 and x - y = 5

To Find:

value of 'x' and 'y'

Solution:

we have

x + y = 13 ---------------------(i)

x-y = 5  -----------------------(ii)

by solving Equation (i) and equation (ii)

x = 13 - y

putting in equation (ii)

13 - y - y = 5

13 - 2y = 5

-2y = 5 - 13

-2y = -8

y = 4

now,

x = 13 - 4 = 9

So, the value of x = 9 and y = 4.
