As we go down the group, the Z effective charge on the outer electron degrades. Therefore, as we go down the group the size of an atom increases.

For Ex. For group I

Li<Na <K <Rb <Cs

Also as we go across a period the number of outer electron increases and the electron is attracted towards the nucleus. Hence the energy required for ionisation of an electron is the most.
