Other types of non-motile sporesproduced by algae include: autospores (green algae), monospores, tetraspores, paraspores and carpospores (red algae), and statospores and auxospores (diatoms).

The various types of asexual spores which are found in algae are given below:

Zoospores:

  • They are formed under favourable conditions.

Alpanospores:

  • They are formed under unfavourable conditions.  

Akinetes:

  • They are thick walled and non-motile and they are found in unfavourable conditions.

Hypnospores:

  • They are thick walled and formed under unfavourable conditions.

Tetraspores

  • They are formed after reduction division.

Autospores

  • They are similar to parent cells and develop all characteristics of the parent cell.
