Given:

Required average = 9.25hrs/day

Varsha's average = 8.5hrs/day

Additional working time of Varsha after 8 working days = 70mins= 1.16hrs

To Find:

The number of working days will she need to meet the required average

Solution:

Let the number of required days be x.

We know that average or the mean is the sum of all the observations divided by the number of observations.

Here, Required average = ∑ (No. of working hours) / No. of days

For the first 8 days, Varsha worked for 8.5 hours.

For the next x days, she worked for 8.5+1.16 hours = 9.66 hours

According to the question,

(8 X 8.5 + x X 9.66) / 8 + x = 9.25

Cross multiplying,

68 + 9.66x = 74 + 9.25x

or 0.41 x = 6

or x = 14.63

So Varsha needs 15 days to meet the required average.

Hence, (d) none of the options is correct.
