in the shape of a cuboid. The jewellery box has the dimensions as shown in the figure below. The rate of painting
the exterior of the box is Rs 2 per cm2
. After making the box she took help from his friends to decorate the box. The
blue colour was painted by Deepak (ABHG, CDEF), Black by Suresh (DBHE), green by Harsh (AGFC) and the
yellow was painted by Naresh (GHEF, ABDC)

Given :- Veena planned to make a jewellery box to gift her friend Reeta on her marriage. She made the jewellery box of wood in the shape of a cuboid. The jewellery box has the dimensions as shown in the figure below. The rate of painting the exterior of the box is Rs 2 per cm²?. After making the box she took help from his friends to decorate the box. The blue colour was painted by Deepak, Black by Suresh, green by Harsh and the yellow was painted by Naresh.

To Find :-

(i) What is the volume of box ?

(ii)How much area did Suresh paint ?

(iii) How much area did Deepak paint ?

(iv) What amount did Veena pay for painting ?

Solution :-

from image we get,

• Length of cuboid box = 40 cm .
• Breadth = 30 cm.
• Height = 20 cm.

then,

→ Volume of box = Length * Breadth * height = 40 * 30 * 20 = 24000 cm³. (Ans i)

now,

→ Area Painted by Suresh = Black colour = Area of AGHB = 40 * 30 = 1200 cm². (Ans ii)

and,

→ Area Painted by Deepak = Blue colour = Area of FEGH + Area of ABDC = 30 * 20 + 30 * 20 = 600 + 600 = 1200 cm². (Ans iii)

then,

→ The amount Harsh charged = 800 * 2 = Rs. 1600

therefore,

→ Total amount Veena Paid for painting = 2 * 1200(Black) + 2 * 1200(Blue) + 1600(Green) + 2 * 800(Yellow) = 2400 + 2400 + 1600 + 1600 = Rs.8000 (Ans. iv)
