Velocity versus time graph of a ball of mass 50g rolling on a concrete floor is
shown in figure. Calculate the acceleration and frictional force of the floor on the
ball.

Solution,

From the above graph,

  • u = 80 m/s
  • v = 0
  • t = 8 s

v = u + at

→ 0 = 80 + a × 8

→ a = -80/8

-10 m/s²

◑ m = 50 g

→ 50/1000 kg

1/20 kg

\sf{\therefore} F = ma

→ 1/20 × (-10)

- 0.5 N

Negative sign is showing the frictional force of the floor on the ball.
