The railway station is a rather busy place. There is a lot of activity going on during the day.While passengers come and go, the porters and vendors, particularly the ones selling tea are a permanent feature here. These people have all the necessary information about the train schedules. The passengers on the other hand, need to confirm everything- from the train timings to their names on the scroll boards. As each train’s name and number are announced, the hopeful travellers try to listen to the announcements over the din of noisy conversations coming from families sitting in groups, keeping a watchful eye on their luggage. Piles of luggage however, lie unattended on trolleys. These boxes belong to soldiers getting posted to another place. Here, they are taken care of by porters who are eager to offer last minute help to travellers who have just bought their tickets and are struggling with their bags. Negotiations, inquiries and gossip goes on until the last train for the day leaves. Thereafter, there is peace for a couple of hours before the railway station buzzes with life again.
