To Prove:

2(3p - 1) - 7 = 13.

LHS:-

Let,

g(p) = 2(3p - 1) - 7

∴ g(- 3) = 2[3(- 3) - 1] - 7

= 2(- 9 - 1) - 7

= 2(- 10) - 7

= - 20 - 7

= - 27

RHS:-

13

LHS RHS, or

2(3p - 1) - 7 13.

Answer:

Method 1:

p = -3

LHS = 2(3p-1) - 7

= 6p - 2 - 7 [Distributive Property]

= 6(-3) - 9

= -18 - 9

= -27 != RHS

Therefore, p is not -3

Method 2:

2(3p-1] - 7 = 13

or 2(3p-1) = 20 [Transposing -7 to RHS]

or 3p-1 = 10 [Transposing ×2 to RHS]

or 3p = 11 [Transposing -1 to RHS]

or p = ¹¹/3 != -3 [Transposing ×3 to RHS]

Therefore, p is not -3

Hope it helps you :)
