Solution:

Given f(y) = 2y+1

f(-1/2) = 2(-1/2) + 1

= -2/2 + 1

= -1 + 1

= 0

Therefore,

f(-1/2) = 0 ,

-1/2 is a zero of f(y).

  f (y) = 2y + 1

∴f (-1/2) = 2 × - 1  + 1

                     -----

                       2

           =  -2  + 1

              -----

                2

           = -1 + 1

           = 0

⇒ -1/2 is the zero of the polynomial f(y) = 2y+1
