Answer:

(i) x = 3/4

y = 6/7

to verify -(x+y)= (-x) + (-y)

-(3/4+6/7) = (-3/4) + (-6/7)

-([(3×7) + (6×4)]/28) = -3/4-6/7

-((21+ 24)/28) = -(3×7) - (6×4)]/28

-((21+ 24)/28) =( -21-24)/28

-45/28 = -45/28

LHS = RHS

hence verified

(ii) x= -3/4

y= -6/7

to verify -(x+y)= (-x) + (-y)

-(-3/4+(-6/7)) = -(-3/4) + (-(-6/7))

-(-3/4 -6/7) = 3/4 + 6/7

3/4+6/7 = 3/4 + 6/7

[(3×7) + (6×4)]/28 = [(3×7) + (6×4)]/28

(21+ 24)/28 =( 21+24)/28

45/28 = 45/28

LHS = RHS

hence verified

Hope it helps you :)
