 = 2 {y}^{2}  + 5y - 3

put \: y =  \frac{ - 1}{2}  \: in \: above

 = 2( \frac{ - 1}{2} ) ^{2}  + 5( \frac{ - 1}{2} ) -  3

 = 2( \frac{1}{4} )  -  \frac{5}{2}  -  \frac{3}{1}

 =  \frac{2}{4}  -  \frac{5}{2}  -  \frac{3}{1}

 =  \frac{2 - 10 - 12}{4}

 =  \frac{ - 20}{4}

 =  - 5
