Given:

5(x - 4) - 1 = 7x + 3

What To Find:

Value of x and verify the eqaution.

Solution:

5(x - 4) - 1 = 7x + 3

Solve the brackets,

⇒ 5x - 20 - 1 = 7x + 3

Subtract 1 from - 20,

⇒ 5x - 21 = 7x + 3

Take 3 to LHS and 5x to RHS

⇒ -21 - 3 = 7x - 5x

Solve the LHS and RHS,

⇒ -24 = 2x

Take 2 to LHS,

⇒ -24/2 = x

Divide,

⇒ -12 = x

Verification:

5(x - 4) - 1 = 7x + 3

Substitute the values,

⇒ 5(-12 - 4) - 1 = 7(-12) + 3

Solve the brackets,

⇒ 5(-16) - 1 = -84 + 3

Remove the brackets,

⇒ -80 - 1 = -81

Solve the LHS,

⇒ -81 = -81

∴ LHS = RHS

∴ Hence, verified.
