Answer:

Answer 1:-

For, x = -1/3, p(x) = 3x+1

∴p(−1/3) = 3(-1/3)+1 = −1+1 = 0

∴ -1/3 is a zero of p(x).

Answer 2:-

For, x = 4/5, p(x) = 5x–π

∴ p(4/5) = 5(4/5)- = 4-

∴ 4/5 is not a zero of p(x).

Answer:

(I) given polynomial is p (x) =3x+1

Therefore, zeros of the polynomial is 3x+1=0. =x= - 1/3

hence, x = -1/3 is zero of the given polynomial.

(II) Given polynomial is p(x) =5x-π

therefore, zero of the polynomial is 5x-π =0 =x =π/5

hence, x=4/5is not the zero of the given polynomial.
