Question:

Shraddha is 40 years old and Smita is 20 years old. How many years ago was Shraddha three times as old as Smita.

Given:

➵ Shraddha is 40 years old

➵ Smita is 20 years old.

To Find:

How many years ago was Shraddha three times as old as Smita?

Solution:

Let x years ago was Shraddha three times as old as Smita.

Age of Shraddha x years ago = 40 - x

Age of Smita x years ago = 20 - x

Now we know that Shraddha three times as old as Smita so we will do three times i.e., will multiply 3 by Smita's age that will equal to Shraddha's age.

According to question,

40 - x = 3 ( 20 - x )

Now multiply 3 by both 20 and x.

3 × 20 = 60

3 × x = 3x

➩ 40 - x = 60 - 3x

➩ - x + 3x = 60 - 40

➩ 2x = 20

➩ x = 20/2

➩ x = 10

10 years ago was Shraddha three times as old as Smita.

Answer:

Here is your answer

Step-by-step explanation:

(40-x) = 3(20-x)

40-x = 60-3x

3x-x = 60-40

2x = 20

x = 20/2

x = 10

It means that she was 3 times of Shraddha’s age before 10 years.
