Launcelot left the service of Shylock because Shylock did not give sufficient food to him. ... According to Launcelot, If he would stay with the Jew any longer he himself would become a Jew. It is only because of cruel nature of Shylock that he left his service and joined Bassanio.

We need to answer the question as to why does Launcelot want to leave his old master
- Lancelot wanted to leave his job with Shylock, his current master because he was not very happy.
- He thought of his master as a miserly and cruel Jew and was afraid that if he stayed any longer he would become like his master with similar character traits.
- He was also wanting to leave his master because he was always hungry as his master was a miser.
- He was looking to take up another job with Bassino, who was giving new liveries to his staff.
- Lancelot thought of Shylock as a devilish person and wanted to get away from Shylock.
