Watching Television is Good (For)
Good morning everyone present. I am going to express my views on ‘Television a boon or bane’; and I am going to speak on Television as boon.
Alan Corenk has wittily said: “Television is more interesting than people. If it were not, we would have people standing in the corners of our rooms.” It is quite true that much of television’s potential remains underutilized.
Television has the potential of becoming an exceedingly innovative tool of liberal education for children. All that is required is insightful handling of this wonderful medium of imparting information. Unplanned TV programmes management can be both good and bad depending upon how you use it. TV watched in controlled manner and as an aid to knowledge and learning is a wonderful tool. For example, news channels, Discovery, Nat Geo, Animal Planet, History channel, Sony BBC Earth, etc. can really enhance one’s knowledge and understanding about so many concepts.
TV has an edge over all other learning aids. It imparts information in the most entertaining manner. Scientifically it is better as it involves both the visual and the auditory sense organs in the learning process optimally. Have you ever seen a child watching any programme on Discovery? He is perfectly engrossed in it. The video accompanied by flawless audio absorbs the child’s attention completely. The child learns entreatingly. He remembers it lifelong. Given this advantage, why don’t the educationists use it as a learning tool? Why are there not as many learning programmes as are movies, soap operas or reality shows?
If a series of learning programmes are made on each subject and telecast on TV, the quality of learning will improve manifolds. Unfortunately, TV is chiefly being used for entertainment. However, some learning based channels such as mentioned above are attracting the attention of progressive educationists and may be in the years to come we will have many more learning channels which will revolutionize education. So, television is a boon, not bane.

Good morning everyone present here, I stand before you to express my views on 'Television Enhances Our Experience of The World'. I am going to speak against it. There is so much of hue and cry and ambiguity related to television's influence on our perception about the world around us. I strongly believe this colourful box does not enhance it. I am of the opinion that it distorts our experience of the world.
The different channels air different types of programmes; these program impact our perception so much that we often fail to see the reality. For example in certain movies we see impossible things happening, and the protagonist performing stunts that are impossible to be performed in real life. There has been news of fatalities of certain young men who while trying to imitate the stunts of movies lost their lives. Is this enhancing of experience?
Second example I would like to give is of advertisements. Televisions air a whole range of advertisements of different products: For instance, the weight loss products in the market. People spend huge amount of money expecting the miracle. But in spite of prolonged consumption, these products fail to reduce a centimeter of their flab! Is it enhancement of our experience?
Third example is, TV works as distraction for children and students; they waste many hours of their precious time watching useless TV programmes. TV does not let children study. So, I strongly feel watching TV is not good.

Television is an important aspect of our life related to entertainment, knowledge, and lifestyle. The main aim of TV is to gain information from different parts of the world, to enjoy entertainment during leisure time.
But the aim of the television has brought disadvantages as it is developing a negative mindset to the people. No longer it is a mode to entertainment, the various negative features shown such as crimes, abusive lifestyles or any unrealistic scenes that are believed by the youngsters.
They try to adapt or follow the same which is causing harm to society. Had it been taken as a source of entertainment and information it will make a better life for society.
