Everyone is so much crazy about success. All long for the victor’s cup. All want to be famous, rich, and show-stoppers. However, success is very elusive. Only a few out of the many millions clinch it! The world has given us a few truly successful personages. By thinking about them we can truly feel the wonder and grandeur of being successful. Even after their demise, people quote them and just try to emulate them. Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, Socrates, Thomas Edison, Abraham Lincoln, Charlie Chaplin, Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Walt Disney, Helen Keller, Mahatma Gandhi, etc. are some of the names that amaze us!

The one common lesson that they taught all the humankind was the lesson of adaptability. One really has to adapt to be successful. Have you ever seen a river? How meandering and winding is its course! Do you know why? Well, river is the greatest example of adaptability. Whenever any obstacle comes in its way, it either makes its course round or flows over it. And finally reaches its destination, the sea. Similarly, if a man wishes to be successful, he must adapt himself to the challenges he faces. He must not stop making efforts. He must change his strategies and be successful.

Not all situations are tailor made for us to be successful. Variety is the spice of life and, therefore, people are made differently and situations vary in time and space; but, this is exactly why life is so interesting, as things are not pre-programmed.

The first thing one must do to achieve success is to understand the environment. The next thing is to understand the task given to him or which he has set out to do. The third thing is to understand his goal and, accordingly, adopt the means for doing the task. Successful men are those that can adapt best to situations.

Let us take the case of a batsman in cricket. Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli have or are all successful because of their adaptability to green tops as well as turning wickets, playing pace and spin with equal elan.
