1 The sources for the history of modern India help us to know the political,socio economic and cultural developments in the country. From the very beginning, the Portuguese, the Dutch, the French,the Danes and the English recorded their official transactions in India on state papers

2 With establishment of trade links, Calicut, Cannanore and Cochin emerged the significant Portuguese centers in India. ✔King Zamorin was defeated by the Portuguese. With the victory over Zamorin, the military superiority of the Portuguese was established.

3 The British had come to India as traders. ... After establishing its monopoly in Indian trade after removing all competing European traders, the English aimed for imperialism. The gradual interference in Indian politics helped the British to win the Diwani rights of Bengal.
