Answer:

Distance \: covered \: in \: first \: hour \:  \:  s1 = v1t1 </p><p>= 40 \times 1 = 40km  \\ Distance \: covered \: in \: second \: hour \:  \: s1 =v1t1  </p><p></p><p>= 50 \times 1 = 50km \\ therefore \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: average \: speed \: v (av) =  \frac{total \: distance }{total \: time \:  }  =  \frac{s1 + \: s2}{t1 + t2 }  \\  =  \frac{40km + 50km}{1h + 2h}  =  \frac{90km}{2h}  =  {45kmh}^{ - 1}

Answer:

How do I calculate average speed for entire journey if Dolly drives her car on a straight highway at uniform rate 40km/h for 2 hours and then at a uniform rate of 70km/h for 1 hour?

Gas bill payments on Amazon.

It is very simple .

Here , you are given

Speed 1 = 40km/hr

Time 1 = 2 hrs .

And , Speed 2 = 70km/h

Time 2 = 1 hr.

Now ,we have to find out distance 1 and distance 2 so that we can find avg. speed .

Now , Distance 1 = Speed 1× Time 1

Distance 1 = 40 × 2 = 80km

Similarly , Distance 2 = Speed 2 × Time 2

Distance 2 = 70 × 1 = 70km.

By using formula of Avg. speed i.e.

Total distance/ total time

= distance 1 + distance 2 / time 1 + time 2

= 80 + 70 / 2 + 1 = 150/3 = 50 km/h

Therefore , Avg speed would be 50 km /h

Hope this helps .
