GIVEN:

It is given that Vimala has sold the book with a loss of 20% on the original price of Rs 500

To Find: We have to find the selling price of the book.

Solution:

At first, the book was purchased by Vimala at a cost of Rs.500.

i.e.- The original price of the book- Rs.500

Then she sold the book at a loss of 20% of the original price of the book.

So, 20% of Rs.500 is 500 * 20/100= Rs.100

Hence, Vimala sold the book at a loss of Rs.100

Now we can easily find that at what rate did Vimala sold the book.

So, by subtracting 20% from the original price we can easily recognise the selling price of the book.

Hence, Rs.500 - the 20% of the Rs.500

        =  RS.500- Rs100

       = Rs.400

So, the selling price of the book at which Vimala sold the book is Rs.400.

FINAL ANSWER: Rs.400
