Vinegar is compound or not

Answer:

Vinegar is an organic compound which consists of water, other "impurities" which impart a variety of flavors, and acetic acid. Acetic acid is an organic molecule because it can be derived from, in the strictest sense of the definition, from other living organisms. But, by another definition, acetic acid contains carbon and is a hydrocarbon, and therefore qualifies as organic.

So, were you intending to ask about vinegar as a whole or about the acetic acid component which makes vinegar what it is -- distinctly pungent tasting and with a sour smell? I hope I covered both to your satisfaction. Much more could be said, especially about acetic acid produced in laboratory conditions without any source living organisms, but that acetic acid would still consist of organic molecules based on the definitions given above. Isn't science fun? Wheeeee!
