Sum of present ages of Vinod and Kishore is 19 years

1) Let present age of vinod be x and present age of kishore be y.

2) According to first statement, x = 2(y-1)

or x = 2y-2

3) According to the second statement, (x+y):(x-y)=19 : 5

or (x+y)/(x-y)=19 / 5 or

5(x+y) = 19(x-y)

or 24y = 14x

4) Substituting from first equation

24y = 14 *( 2y-2) or y=7

Hence, x = 12

5) Therefore, sum of present ages is 12+7= 19
