Answer:

Given-:

Virat and samrat started a business

To find-:

how much loss did each of them incur

Solution-:

The ratio of investment is 50000 : 120000

 \frac{50000}{120000 }  =  \:  \frac{5}{12 } \: ie \: 5 : 12

Total investment = 50000 + 120000 = 1,70,000

loss \:  = 20\%

∴loss \:  =  \frac{20}{100}  \times 170000 \\  =  \frac{20}{100}  \times 170000 = 20 \times 1700 = 34000

They incurred a loss of 34,000

let \: the \: loss \: incurred \: by \: virat \: be\: \\ ₹ \: 5 \: x

let \: the \: loss \: incurred \: by \: samrat \\ be \: ₹ \: 12 \: x

∴ \: 5 \: x + 12x = 34000 \\ ∴ \: 17 \: x = 34000

∴x \:  =  \frac{34000}{17}

∴ \: x = 2000 \\ 5x = 5x2000 \:  = 10000 \\ 12 \: x = 12 \times 20000 = 24000

Hence-:

Loss incurred by virat = 1,000

Loss incurred by samrat = 24,000
