Question:

Virat and Samrat together invested 50000 and 120000 rupees to start a business. They suffered a loss of 20%. How much loss did each of them incur?

To find:

  • The loss each of them incur

Solution:

Let Virat's loss be 5x & Samrat's loss be 12x

 \tt{5x + 12x = 34000} \\  \tt{17x = 34000} \\  \tt{ \therefore x =  { \cancel{\frac{34000}{171}}} } \\  \\  \underline{ \boxed{ \mathfrak{ \red{x = 2000}}}}

Virat's loss = 5 × 2000 = 10000.

Samrat's loss = 12 × 2000 = 24000.

➠ Virat incurred loss of 10000, and Samrat incurred loss of 24000.
