Virus is both living and non living. When it is not in our cells it is dead but when it enters in our body it goes in cells and became living. That's why doctors say to wash your hand and don't touch your face because if by chance we have touch anything that contain that virus by washing then it can't get inside our body through mouth eyes or nose. Virus on metal surface is dead but when we touch it and then touch our face with that same hand virus transmitted inside our body and gets activated
